One of my goals of blogging, is to get you in contact with my world: personal and professional. I want your wedding to be fantastic and, to make it fantastic, you need to surround yourself with fantastic vendors that will help make your day exactly how you have it on your head if not better. Chef Jeni is one of those vendors. She is an incredible Chef and Cater based in Sioux Falls, and serving all areas in South Dakota, and when it comes to food let me tell you, she knows what she is doing. Read below, and if you need her services, give her a call. You won’t be disappointed.

1. Name/Occupation:
Jeni Thomas, Owner, Chef Jeni & Company.

Our kitchens and private dining room are at 3638 S. Southeastern Ave. here in Sioux Falls, but we can bring our great food and service to most any location that you choose.

2. Years in Business:
I didn’t know it at the time, but I began my career as a caterer when I moved to Sioux Falls in 1992 to help pay my way through college. I worked evenings and weekends as a server, a prep cook, and planner for a local catering company. It was great!

Chef Jeni & Company opened in 2001 and I still do all of the same jobs!

3. What make you become a Chef?
The short story is that I surprised myself and my entire family as well as all of my friends when I opened my own cooking business. The day I quit my good paying "real job” in an office, I cried my eyes out as I drove away.  I was so worried that I had made a huge mistake. But, I had taken a leap of faith and a job managing a small kitchen and soda fountain where I was the homemade soup, sandwich, and baked goods cook. This gave me a flexible schedule and the confidence to grow my cooking skills and business clientele until I had my own kitchen, staff, and catering company.

4. Best thing about what you do?
People in the service industry are creative, generous, and work extremely hard. I love being a part of this community! I live for collaboration and knowing that when we succeed, it is because we work very hard as a team.

Constant change is a part of our business so we are always learning as well. I absolutely love it when someone teaches me a new dish or recipe. Collaboration with co-workers and customers is a gift of my job.

5. Advice for future brides?
Catering is a huge part of the wedding reception and you don’t want to have to worry about the details while you are enjoying the party.  Great food and skilled staff can set the stage for a wonderful celebration. Pick a company with experience and knowledge who will listen to you, answer your questions, and help guide you.
